Interim Senior Communications Consultant in Corporate Sustainability & Finance (Freelance)

Do you want to apply your communications expertise at the intersection of sustainability and corporate finance, working with senior decision makers from leading multinational companies?

Our client is a global, non‑profit business network supporting 200+ large corporates on their sustainability transformation. The company is looking for a senior freelance communications consultant to strengthen the communications and branding of its Corporate Performance & Accountability (CP&A) program.

The organisation operates internationally, with hubs in Geneva, Amsterdam, London, Chicago, China and Singapore. The CP&A program focuses on integrating sustainability into financial decision‑making, corporate reporting, investor engagement and executive‑level governance.

What will you do?

You will support both the central communications team and the CP&A leadership in sharpening the program’s story, increasing visibility, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality communication towards financially oriented audiences.

Your role is a blend of strategic positioning, content development, and day‑to‑day communications coordination.

You will:

  • Develop a clear and compelling positioning of the CP&A program, internally and externally.
  • Translate complex, abstract sustainability–finance topics into clear, relevant messaging.
  • Shape and deliver ongoing “drumbeat communication” around key events, milestones, publications and initiatives across the year.
  • Identify the right audiences, channels and narratives for C‑suite and senior corporate stakeholders.
  • Work closely with subject‑matter experts to co‑create storylines and ensure clarity.
  • Contribute to thought leadership moments, event planning and strategic communication opportunities.
  • Write and edit a variety of content in excellent English (web copy, news updates, briefings, talking points).
  • Manage stakeholders in a fast‑moving, international context with many time zones and professional backgrounds.
  • Push back constructively where needed: challenge vagueness, ask the right questions, and support the team in getting to a crisp narrative.

You will be part of a compact CP&A team and collaborate regularly with the organisation’s central communications unit.

What do you bring?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong experience in financial communication, corporate reporting, investor‑facing communication or similar domains.
  • Combines strategic capability with hands‑on execution.
  • Can quickly understand complex sustainability–finance topics and translate them into sharp, accessible messaging.
  • Has experience in international (non‑profit or corporate) environments with diverse stakeholders.
  • Writes and communicates exceptionally well in English.
  • Understands what resonates with senior corporate and C‑suite audiences and can communicate in that tone.
  • Is confident, resilient and unfazed by high‑pressure or demanding personalities.
  • Is senior enough to oversee the bigger picture, but not so senior that operational work becomes uninteresting.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of ESG, sustainability reporting, risk frameworks or corporate governance
  • Experience working for membership‑based international organisations

Practical information

  • Start: Immediate
  • Duration: 6 months, with option for extension
  • Availability: 2,5 days per week
  • Location: Hybrid; fully international team; 1 day per week onsite in Amsterdam
  • Level: Senior Consultant / Director level
  • Language: English

About the organisation

They support member companies with tools, metrics, frameworks and expert guidance across a wide range of sustainability topics — from emissions reduction and value chain transformation to governance, reporting and education.
